Safety is the Primary Concern

Grounding for electrical safety and compliance with local codes is essential to the success of a new installation. Building inspection departments require that minimum manufacturing standards and installation methods be followed. All electrical devices are required to be listed with a testing laboratory such as UL or CSA to insure that the product will not be a safety hazard.

For the sake of safety, consult an expert

Every year, thousands of home owners tackle electrical projects on their own, and in many cases, they rely on information they get from sales people. Retail stores that sell building materials sometimes train their sales staff in construction techniques, but the customer should not rely entirely on this resource. There are lots of books available on electrical wiring, and the more you know, the better off you'll be.
